I believe that schools should not be held responsible for events before or after prom.Parents should know where and what their children are doing. During prom the school should be responsible, but once the last limo leaves that should be it.Schools shouldnt have to worry about what their students are doing, thats the parents job.

Schools shouldn't be responsible for what happens after prom, because it wasthere choice to do what they do, and they should of thought about the consequences before they did it. Schools should be responsble for what they do and say in school because that can be stopped before it happens. If it harms another person the school should be held responsible.
Most schools are not giving consent of illegal activity because they dont want to be involved in with laws, just like the article about the girl being stripped in school. That was the schools fault and the schools should be resonsible for there actions and face the consequences.

I think school shouldn't be held responsible for the pre and post prom events. The events that the student have set up for prom is the responsibily of them and their parents. The only thing the school should be responsible for are the events that take place during the prom, or with an altercation within the prom vicinity.
The tacit consent thing to me is unfare and schools shouldn't and don't need to report everything that they hear because evrything people say aren't true. If something happens to a student after prom and a teacher knows about it it's not the teachers fault it the person who is commiting the act. They should know for themeselves what's wrong and what's right and should know better than to get in trouble.
Although I don't think schools should be responsible for what goes on during pre- or post- prom parties, they are clearly responsible for what goes on during their own proms. It is quite fair to search student limos or party bus' upon their arrival to the prom location, and any students who come across as intoxicated should not be allowed in and should be sent home immediately. Having inebriated students at a prom can be dangerous and hazardous to the other students attending. The school should be able to give detention or even suspension to students that do not behave correctly at prom or are visibly intoxicated when they arrive.
The issue of post-prom parties is much more difficult to address because school administrators cannot necessarily be in control of where students are going. Though it is the school's responsibility to ensure that the students can get home or where ever they are going safely. They should once again check the limos and buses before the students get on to leave the party location. The problem with this is the school's have no way to know where the kids are going, which coincides with the tacit consent laws. Schools should definitely be responsible for what happens at pre prom affairs, and should be held responsible until the students leave the prom.
Schools should not be held reponsible because of the unreliability of teenagers and the culture surrounding proms. No matter how many restrictions are placed on students and what they do during and after the prom, a situation like this is bound to happen.
In the end, responsibility lies with the parents. Parents are the ones that let their kids do this and they are the ones shelling out thousands of dollars for a glorified popularity contest. Since they coddle their precious snowflakes, parents automatically think that their kids wouldn't do anything wrong and blame everyone else.
I think school should be responsible for before prom but afterwards school shouldn't because it's upto students what they should do. I believe parents should know what their children doing, school didn't have know that.If something happen during prom then school have responsible.
Schools should not be held responsible for events after prom or pre prom parties. During the prom the school is definitely responsible. Everything should be searched upon arrival and as students depart.
Schools do know that the possibility of illegal activity will occur after prom. There's nothing tacit about that. Of course, schools can't control who's going to do what and where the students are going. Is this violating tacit consent laws?
The irresponsiblity of kids causes them to be untrustworthy. Also, parents are involved and should be held responsible. If anything goes wrong, parents will look to pass the blame around. Allowing their kids to participate in this foolishness leads to illegal activity. The culture of prom is damaging. This is what's wrong with our society.
If that's how it's going continue, prom's should be taken away from all schools. There's no two ways about that.
Schools should not be held responsible with events but also I agree towards what M. Frank had said that "They should be clearly responsible for what goes on during their own proms." Parents trust the school to take care of their kids IN school. Which I believe schools try the most to do at some point. What I don't agree to is that schools should be responsible for what happens to teenagers once they leave the school building or property. Parents should be aware of what or where their kid is, and what he/she is doing. Its to hard sometimes for the school to know where the kids are going or what is going to happen with them.

Schools shouldn't be responsible for what happens after prom with students, It is the parents job to make sure they know where there kid is, the kids are the ones who rent the limos not the school, while the prom is on the school is defiantly responsible and should check students limos and bags to make sure they aren't carrying anything with them.
I don't believe that schools should be blamed for children and parents mistakes. Why are parents holding schools responsible the way I see it once you leave the school premises the promblems are on the world but who to blame no other than the parents. However I agree with matthew frank when he said "They should be clearly responsible for what goes on during their own proms."
I do not think that schools should be held responsible for prom events. Prom is a celebration for the graduating class. Yes, it may have been blown out of proportion over the years but it was not initially suppose to be about the limos and alcohol. If they stop prom there will be another event to celebrate the success of the seniors. So, there really is no solution.
The way the setup is about who is suppose to have responsiblity to the students are messed up. But i disagree about schools being responsible for the students before or after school, school activities, prom, etc. i believe schools should be only responsible if there is a teacher there, so anytime after school or whatever, they shouldnt be responsible rather than the parents. Parents trust their kids that they wont do anything stupid thats why they let them go to prom, or school games, so they should be responsible if the students do something stupid after school hours.
Schools should not be responsible for pre/after prom. What happens during prom is the schools responsibility because we are under there supervision and they have our parents consent. Just like during school hours, teachers & school staff members are responsible for students. Pre prom and After prom parties are the responsibility of parents. Parents should know where the child is at all times. We aren't adults, we aren't responsible for ourselves yet. No matter how mature everyone thinks of themselves, when your in trouble you'll be glad that some else is there to help you out of it. Also I don't think schools are giving tactic consent to illegal activities. We are reminded at all times what we are and aren't allowed to do. If you don't follow that its your and your parents problem, not the school. And yes its understandable that its teenage years, but its not such a big deal..the whole alcohol issue. You have your whole entire life to waste your time and money on alcohol. Prom should be remembered SOBER.
I think that schools shouldn’t be held responsible for the events that occur before or after prom. The only thing that they should be responsible for is for what happens during prom. Everyone is old enough to realize what they are going to do, and also the parents are the ones who should worry about what their kids plans are not the school.
I don't think the school should be responsible for what happens before or after prom. There is no one to look after the kids before and after prom. Schools are responsible when the kids are at the prom because they are there to watch them but after prom, no teachers will follow and watch them. A lot of kids do a lot of stupid things after prom and they should be responsible for their own actions.
I AGREE WITH CMARTINEZ. I THINK THAT SCHOOLS SHOULD NOT BE HELD RESONSIBLE FOR AFTER PROM EVENTS. DUE TO THE FACT THAT AFTER PROM IS NOT APART OF THE PROM. THE ONES THAT SHOULD BE RESONSIBLE IS THE PARENTS BECAUSE THEY SHOULD KNOW WHERE THEIR CHILD IS. THE OTHER ONE IS THE CHILD BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO CONTROL THEMSELVES.
I don't believe that the school should be responsible for what goes on after the prom. Responsibility should be severed once the students have left the hall. As many of my classmates have said, It should be the responsibility of the students and their parents.
Prom is a celebration of your four long years in H.S. Yes some kids and parents take that extra mile for no reason. Now is it the teachers fault what happens after the kids leave the prom NO!! Especially if the teachers have already let the place of the prom. Students by this age should know what's wrong from right. Sometimes things happen that people just can't control, but if they're activities going on within the presence of an parentthen the parent should be held reliable.
I feel that schools should not be punished or held responsible for activities occurring after prom and pre prom. If the schools were held responsible for the after parties then there would be no more prom. The students make their decisions on what they do after prom whether it's going home or going into clubs it's their decisions. Also, some of these students are 18 now and should be held responsible for their own actions, they can;t rely on the school no more.
If you ask me Prom is really only a dance that they hype up and charge more money for. Then i think that its messed that some people wont have the chance to exsperince prom because some girl and her friend wanted to act tough and start a fight with some guys at a place they thought they left their keys at. its funny how things can be taken away from all because of a few teens who dont think before act.
First off I'd like to say that Proms are a HUGE waste of money, and I an indifferent about them. AS far as the school prom and after prom go, they are two different events. What the students choose to do outside after the prom and its hours or school grounds,Schools should not be blamed for any event after the students leave prom.School always are anti illeagal to anything that can harm someone, so thats not even an issue.Schools should only be blamed for things that happen within prom hours.
I personally think that its not only the job of the parents to know what their children are doing, but if your going to organize an event for teenagers, you should take the responsibility to make sure that they are doing what they are supposed to. Now when the kids dismiss themselves from the night event and do other things outside of an event organized by your school, then it becomes the parents job. There is nothing a school can do if students decide to do whatever they want after prom or any event. Its kind of out of their hands after students leave the premise.
I agree with crystal schools shouldnt be held responsible for what happenes at after parties after prom. The school is only responsibke for children when there in school or at the place where the prom is held. After the kids leave then it is the parents responsibility to know where and what their children are doing.
I think proms are overrated. People and society over hype prom to be so important on everyone lives. I think that schools should have the responsibility to watch over the kids because prom now has become about sex and drinking and both combined can be a dangerous thing. Parents also need to make sure they talk to the kids and watch them making sure the mistakes they make aren't life altering ones.
