Should we always be judged by our peers? What seems to be the issue int he polygamy case? Does Warren Jeff have a right to practice his religion?

Should we always be judged by our peers? I think that in some cases we should be judged by our peers, but in other cases they shouldnt because they might not understand who the person they are judging believes in so instead of trying to learn they automatically think its wrong.the issue that seems to be at hand with the polygamy case is that warren jeff if being tried on felony charges that he was an accomplice to rape in arranging polygamous marriages between underage girls and older men. I think he has the right to practice his religion because if its fine with the people who are getting married who are we to judge what they believe in only god can judge us and who ever made up such a world were if society thinks its wrong than its okay who really knows whats right and whats wrong think about?-Octavia Ramos

I agree with Octavia. Sometimes i think we should be judged by our peers, so that they can give their opinions, but i am mostly on "we shouldn't be judged by our peers" because when they judge, they don't our side of the answe and they'll say whatever they want, instead of understanding the person. Everyone has a right to practice his/her religion. It is what they believe in just like Warren Jeff.

I agree with octavia also. I think being judged by our peers doesn't always half to be a negative experience. Sometimes being judged can open up new possibilities or ideas. Now on the othe hand with the polygamy case, I think Warren Jeff does have the right to keep on practicing his religion. If thats what he beieves and more importantly his people believe we do not have the right to force our views on to a society who has been taught to live a certain way. Everyone has the right to practice their own religion. Like octavia said only god can judge us. Just as strong as our beliefs are their are the same. Everyone has a right to believe their own religion and Warren Jeff is no exception.

I feel that no one should judge anyone! We are different indivuduals who look different, smell different , act different in everyway. Most of that has to do with religion or whatever that human being practices. I also feel that in some religions they do the practice of many different wifves but who are we to criticize that practice. What I do feel confuse about is the young age marriage , a 14 year old has not even hit puberty so she nor her familyt should think of giving her up.

I agree with Octavia to a certain degree. I feel we should be judged by our peers for certain things because they have a better understanding of where we're coming from. But as far as the religion issue goes, I feel its very controversial. Yes, everyone does have the right to practice their own religion, but its a different story when it breaks the law. If a man were to marry a younger girl just because he wanted to he would be prosecuted, but if someone was a polygamist and did this they would say they have the right just because its their religion. So in cases like this, I feel we should be judged by an objective group of people who aren't basing their decision because of what side they are on.

I agree with Octavia because to be judged by your peers is kind of two sided because of the way that they think is right and wrong. The way they are influenced always is going to be changing their minds. Warren Jeff did something against the law but yet it is his religion and you can’t stop him from continuing something that has been going on for over 1000 years. If it was a problem then it should have been stopped way when it had first started.

I do not believe we should always be judged by our peers because everyone is entitled to their own opinion and they themselves contain different perspectives on certain matters. But I feel that like Octavia said, our peers do not have the right to say what is right or wrong nor does anyone else. I feel that in this case and in life despite the fact that we do not wish to be judged people will judge us anyways and we do not have control over it. Also I believe that no one can fully 100% understand your viewpoint due to the fact that they do live in your shoes or experience the same things. Therefore I believe in this case Warren Jefferson and other polygamists should have the right to practice their religion.

I agree with Megan that we cannot allow Warren Jeffs to marry off young girls on the basis of his religion. I agree with what most people said that we have the right to believe what we want and practice what we want. But, the young girl who was married off probably did not share the same views as the other radical Mormons or changed her mind after she was forced to be a wife at fourteen. I don't think we have any legal grounds to prosecute Mr.Jeffs, although most would believe what he is doing is morally wrong, because our country was founded on a freedom of religion. I do think, however, that some people may hide behind their religion as a way to do illegal or immoral acts. It makes you wonder, whose words or actions do you live by your president's or your pastor's?

I agree with Vickie and Megan that Warren Jeffs shouldn't be allowed to marry young girls because of his religion. I don’t think this religion should be practiced at all, because I have a point of view like most of today’s society has to have younger girls getting married to older men is just plain wrong. I think how a society is shaped in which a person lives in ,that’s what the person think is right.

I strongly agree with what Octavia said, that we should be judged by our peers but in other cases that it's not right because if they want to practice there own religion then who are we to say they cant? Everyone has their own right to believe whatever they believe is right. Just like Octavia said, "Only God can judge us." As long as it doesn't hurt one another, we have no right to say who we can and can't marry, however as many wives as we may have or to marry at a young age. Besides, we all have one life to live so live it the way you want to.

I agree with ever one. were not to judge people but in this case I don’t think we are I just think we believe that this religion and practice is just wrong cause there’s no were in the bible or any other religion says its ok to rape little girls and have them marry old men. This is just wrong. But I do believe that every one can practice there religion as long as it’s not harmful to any one. And you’re not breaking the law.

does it hurt to be judge by our others? i feel everyone has the right to express how they feel if its there own opinions but there has to be a point where you give respect to someone for there religion but if thats what they go by and follow whats there to do but if you feel that some things are not right then i understand where your coming from for ex: kids marrying at a young age to older people...why do countries do that i understand thats how they was taught but i feel its not right if your not ready you should have a say so n weather thats what you want to happen noone should ever talk for you and say this is what you should do we the people have our ourmind let us think for ourself

We may make certain exception for religion, but this is going a bit too far. Marrying young girls? Really? I need to agree with Vicky on this, how is that girl old enough to know what she wants or believes. A lot of adults don't know what they want or believe in. What the girls would know is what their parents tell them. What Warren Jeffs did was take advantage of girls and marry them off. He may not have done anything to them himself, but he was sure a part of the convincing. The telling them that they would be disowned, and all of that. It should at least get him locked up as an acessory to rape.

I agree with Octavia because in some instances it does help when your peers judge you, because that does help you learn from others. But at the same time although you might be judged a certain way it is still ultimately up to you at the end of the day to decide wat is right from wrong for yourself. Because nobody cant tell you better than you can. Which leads me to say i think Jeffs should be able to follow his religion because who is anybody to tell him that his religion isnt right.

Some people on this blog have broughten up the fact that what Warren Jeffs might not be moral. In our society it isnt common, so do we automatically consider it immoral? This is a part of Warren Jeffs religion, and just because we don't understand it, we shouldn't deem it as immoral. I agree with Octavia when she discussed the religion aspect of this case. Also if both parties consent to the marriage, how can it be considered wrong.

I agree with Courteney Richardson we shouldn't be judge by nobody. No one is in any position to judge. Everyone has their own opinion, different views and different values. As far as this polygamy case I dont think it's such a big issue and it really shouldn't be stressed. It has been going on for years, it is someone’s religion. America is all about Freedom this and Freedom that. They should be allowed to do they want and practice what they want. We need to be more focused on what is affecting our everyday lives.

i strongly agree with courtney r. Everyone has their own rights to a certain extent and nobody should be judged on what they practice/believe in. There are some cases in which a religion may be questionable, but its that persons life and we have no say in whether it is right or wrong.

Right off the back i can say that anyone shouldnt be judged by anything that they pratice or something they find as a belief. i think that its ok if someone wants to state their opinion if asked. Its never fair to judge anyone just because you dont know their reasons of their actions. I agree w. those who stated we have the right to freedom of religion. I feel that everyone has a certain religion an if you choose to live by it then so be it.

I agree with Courteney R. Who are we to judge someone else. We have been taught since we where young it is wrong to judge anyone regardless if you know them or not. We have no right to judge anyone and no one has the right to judge anyone. I know that polygamy has been an issue, but regardless if it goes to court or not it has happened and will continue to happen. Its is their way of life and they are blowing this out of proportion.
