Depleated Uraniumn

What issues does the documentary Poison Dust concentrate on? What point of view does the director have? What evidence is presented? What further questions might you have for the director? Was the documentary compelling? What is surprising about their website?

The documentary concentrates on the radioactive DU weapons that affected many Iraqis and other people. It's giving them serious medical problems and also to their newborn children. The evidence is presented on the site. They have a display of further DU reports and bibliographies to backup the statements Poison DUst made. The documentary was really compelling.

The documentaries main focus is on the people that live near the rdioactive elements. The director's point of view is that something should be done to lessen the radioactive elements from spreading. He shows his point of view through the people who he interview , who went to the Iraq war. How can a presapatory or judicary person help in this issue? The documentary was compelling ,because the images shown were really moving.

I found theselines suprising,"The Pentagon has bombed, occupied, tortured and contaminated Iraq. Millions of Iraqis are affected. Over one million U.S. soldiers have rotated into Iraq. Today, half of the 697,000 U.S. Gulf War troops from the 1991 war have reported serious medical problems and a significant increase in birth defects among their newborn children."

In the documentary the three veterans that were interviewed focused on what it was like and what was going on in the war. The main focus of the documentary was poison dust. Poison dust is small glass like particles that could be easily breathed in that comes from depleted uranium. They didn’t think anything of it at first but they described it as a thin layer of film on there bunks when they came back from there day at war and as I said they didn’t think anything of it. I think it’s a weird situation because they all signed up for being in the war. It’s a war and bad things happen in a war and the guys didn’t even know what was going into their lungs. What surprised me on the web site was the amount of men affected by this poison dust in the gulf war.

This documentary mainly concentrates on the radioactive DU weapons that affected many Iraqis and other people. They didn't think this was a big thing at first but later realized it was. I think it is pretty bizarre that all these people signed up for the war not knowing the consequences. I mean it is a war, its not just about shooting people but the poison dusts that these men breathe in that also caused serious medical problems. What also surprised me was when it said, "The Pentagon has bombed, occupied, tortured and contaminated Iraq. Millions of Iraqis are affected. Over one million U.S. soldiers have rotated into Iraq. Today, half of the 697,000 U.S. Gulf War troops from the 1991 war have reported serious medical problems and a significant increase in birth defects among their newborn children."

This documentary shows how the poison dust affected the soldiers and how their babies come out with birth effects. the point of view there trying to make is that the soldiers is dieing and the government is not doing much to help .the evidence presented is the soldiers daughter how she was born with no figures on are right hand. Yes an it was compelling because of what we saw it’s sad that the soldiers is effected and there children is coming out deiform. Why don’t the government get better weapons for the soilders ?

I disagree with Manpreet Kaur and agree with Tiffany Lau the documentaries main focus was to state the result of what the radioactive DU weapons. The purpose of the documentary was to notify people of what is going on. The reason for that is the more people who know what is going the faster things get done. As veterans come home they are face with medical problems that could lead to cancer and it not only affects them but their families too. As Anta has stated there has been a significant increase in birth defects among Veteran newborn children. I feel the only way to get to a solution with this problem is to make this problem world known. Because I know that if it was talked about in class I doubt I would of heard about it. I feel that, that is ashame. I think the more people who hear about it the more they would want to find a solution. For the simple fact that they will feel bad and grateful for all that the Veterans did. People are willing to help the Veterans because they fought for their country they just need to know how they could help. And to Kemi's question... Will the government change and get better weapons now that more problems are coming out?

The documentary Poison Dust concentrates on how the radioactive DU weapons afftected the veterans, like Samantha Ross stated. Based on the documentary, you can see that the director believes the weapons are the cause of both long term and short term problems that the veterans, and the veterans families, are faced with. These problems include respirtory ailments and birth defects. Evidence presented to back up his claim are the urine samples talked about by one of the veterans, and a comparison of a birth defect of two children exposed to the poison dust. I would like to ask the director if the veterans were once in their life exposed to another substance that could possibly cause respitory or birth problems, just to make his point of view stronger.

I agree with TLau. The documentary does concentrate on the radioactive DU weapons. Those affect and harm Iraqi's and other people who live around there. It's giving them medical problems. That also effects their children who are born. Like we saw in class, The newborn child had no hand because Radiation affected the child. That was very sad.

I agree with both what Anta and Samantha said about the documentary. It wants to inform us how radioactive DU weapons affect the Iraqis but also it wants to tell us what the government is doing about this case which is nothing. Many soldiers come home from war and get affected by this poison dust. Not only does this affect them but it also causes birth defects in their offspring. The director doesn’t like the fact that the government isn’t doing anything to solve this issue and wants the viewers to lend a helping hand to stop veterans from being affected by depleted uranium. Like what Megan said, the evidence that shows the problems poison dust causes are respiratory ailments and birth defects. I think that the government has to make a face masks so that the soldiers won’t inhale these glass particles of depleted uranium.

this documentary is based on the people who was effected by the radioactive DU from the war. i feel that everyone who was effected by the DU should be treated and cured. the radioactive DU affected many , also those that were affected , affected newborns that the decieved while they came back. its sad to see years later that people are still complaining that they are not seeking any help...

The De pleated uranium this is a big problem having all these solders coming back with very high counts of radiation in there body system and they don't know that they do so now they come home and are trying to live there life and start or extend there family and then they have deformed children. they should tell them so they can decide weather or not they wont to have another chiled naturally with those risks. But all they are doing is denying it so they don't have to pay for the solders health care .

Fact of the matter here, is that the govenment needs to take action on this whether it be financially or giving out masks as tobin stated. The documentary focuses on the troops mostly but the citizens of those infected towns are inhaling this poison as well. Troops come back to their homes to unknowingly have babies with birth defects? thats outrageous for not only the parents but the mere fact that no action is being taken to help these people.

The documentary concentrates on the radioactive of DUweapons and what effect it has on the people that are exposed to it more or at risk of it.It also show how the governtment plays a big part because when my father was exposed to it he didnt even know until hw went to the hospital in the United states because the army told him there was no such thing of him being affected with DU.I agree with what samantha said when she said if she didnt hear about it in class then she would have never known about DU and that is true if my dad was not in fact affected with DU I would have never known, and in a way its helping because he's involved with the media and getting his voice heard and letting the peole know what is really going on.

i agree with wat samantha ross said, too many things are occuring now and days and theres many out there that is having a hard time trying to understand why theres others who cant help and is not willing to. In order for your voice to be heard you have to stand clear and makes disions on your own so people can understand where your coming from with the situation occuring theres many medical problems and children as well as newborns is getting left with birth effects the question is it really the radioactive du weapons that is really giving theses people serious problems and effects because its getting carried on to there love ones as well.

Like everyone said, the documentary wanted to inform us about the dangers of using depleted uranium weapons. It also made sure to tell us about all the research that has gone into the use of said weapons. While there is a lot of research into the subject, very little is being done to help those affected by it. in the documentary they talk about how they were stationed in a certain spot in Iraq. After they pulled out a British squad pulled in, did a quick scan and decided that the spot was too dangerous to stay. There is obviously something too the whole depeleted uranium thing, if others are careful about where they set up camp. The question then becomes, why aren't we more careful about it?

The documentary was about radioactive DU and the effects it has had on the people in its surroundings. This is a serious problem because of its long term effects. The creaters of the documentary were trying to informing unknowing beings of its effects. I find it strange that now, so many people are informed, and yet still so little is being done to change it, or help.

I understand that by using DU radioactive weapons many troops where saved the chance of being shot by being sent into a building to disarm enemys but the cost are way higher than just going with the original plan. its affecting everyone from enemies to innocent by-standers down to our troops in war zone's across the world leading the birthdefect rate to a all time high, killing now and affecting the future!! we to do more test on our weapons making sure we only harm who is pointed out and not anything more.
