What qualities are we looking for in a presidential candidate?

What is the importance of primaries?

What would be the one question you would ask the all the candidates that would help you make a decision as who you would vote for as president?

In a presidential candidate, we are looking for a trustworthy/honest, smart, responsible & an able-to-handle great things person. I believe if a president doesn't have at least some of those qualities, then they shouldn't be running for pres. I would ask the question: How can you make people believe and trust you[prove to them] that the reason you are running for president is honest & true?

I agree with Tiffany that we are looking for a honest, smart, responsible, anda person who can handle great things. We are also looking for a president that can solve the problems the nation is facing as of right now. For exapmple, the veterans in poverty, economic problems, and other problems.
I would ask, what can you do to help this nation get back on track, and what do you promise can you make to help the veterans who fought in the Iraq War that are in poverty now?

I agree with Tiffany also a president should have all the right qualities. I'm not saying He/She must be perfect because knowone is perfect I'm just saying a president should have the qualities to be trustworthy. If someone has the power to run your country you would want to know that your being ran be an honest, smart, somewhat independent and level headed person. What my question would be is similar to Manpreets. It would be about how to help the veterans from Iraq in poverty.

I agree with tiffany and manpreet we really need a good president to help us get out of war and stop using money from china get rid of all that stuff the U.S.A has to clean up and get its act together. We need some one to help us do that.

When i think of some qualities of a president, someone thats going to run our country. I think of those listed by tiffany and manpreet. We dont need a president thats going to feed us lies just so that we can shutup and complain about it later. I believe that we need someone that can handle the United States problems we face and not shove it in their backpocket and shift over to what they think is important. What promises can you make to help us and get ourselves out of our own problems, without butting into other countries buisness?

A president should be able to be trusted, be a people person, care for the needs of the people and must be able to admit mistakes. If they go into office with the idea that all people have the same needs then there rises a problem. The president must be able to listen to all kinds of people. They must also be able to carry out their promises because of the fact that previous presidents haven't. I agree with Alex P.'s question._Courtney Wilson

I agree with TLau she right we do need honesty. Not people who’s going to tell us what we want to here like Hillary Clinton. We need some one who listens to there people and do there best to rich out to every needs and problems. We need some one ready to take actions and are strong enough to lead the country. Which of the presidential candidate is ready to fix the impossible? which is finding a solution to ending the war and how we can make peace?

I agree with Tiffany. In a presidential candidate, we need someone who is smart, responsible, honest and trustworthy. If the person has these qualities then they can run for president. A president is someone who can take care of things well and handle any kind of situation. A president should be able to gain people's trust and show them he can do anything and is capable of being president.

I agree with what Tiffany said, we are looking for a trustworthy, smart, responsible and an able to handle great things person. We need a president that can help the nation with the situations we have. We need a president that can reach out to all Americans. My question is, "What is the solution to ending the war, what will happen in another 5 years?"

I agree w. everyone i think that a presidential candidate should also be determined to change societys ways & have goals an work hard to achieve them. I think they should be believable , reliable , and genuine. They should show that they really care about making changes an not their position of just being a president.

when I think of a good president candidate I think of someone who's ready to put all jokes aside and run a country. I also think of someone who is trying to better our country. I think that the next person who takes the president chair should be ready to semi clear up the mess that george bush created.. also bring our troops home. someone who is reliable to count on. that's what we need in a president. I think we had more then enough for the last 8 years with bush.

I agree with everyone when they said we need a president that is trustworthy, smart, and responsible. The importance of primaries are that it’s the main way of voters get to know about all the candidates. The primaries provide a nationwide stage for the free and open exchange of all ideas and opinions, the foundation of the American form of participatory democracy.( http://usgovinfo.about.com/cs/politicalsystem/a/whyprimaries.htm) I would ask the candidates if and how they will end the war in Iraq?

I think what everyone wants in a presidential candidate and I agree with everyone that wrote this so far is someone that he/she has to be smart, responsible, honest, trustworthy, and someone that understands what really needs to be done about the war.

I feel that this blog will have the same answers over and over again and I am going to repeat what everyone else has been writing, that our presidential candidate should be responsible, smart, honest, and understanding.

When it comes to picking a president, I believe that we need someone who isn't afraid to admit mistakes and someone who will stick by what they believe in. Yes, they must be able to handle what will come, but they wont be trustworthy if they can't admit they were wrong and they wouldn't be smart either. In the end we need a human being, who sin't afraid to be human.

Just like everyone else, I agree with the qualitites people said we need in a presidential candidate. But other than the obvious things such as honesty, brains, and responsibility, we also need someone who doesnt make false promises. There have been so many times when a candidate has promised something that couldnt possibly get done, giving people false hope. We need people who can promise things that can actually be done, and then follow through. Someone who promises to do something just to get votes isnt the type of president we should have. The primaries are very important because they show us the views of the candidates and what exactly they plan on doing. They help with deciding who to vote for.

Everyone on the blog basically listed all the qualities that we should look for in a potential presidential candidate. Smart, trustworthy, and honest. We understand why these traits are important, but everyone fails to realize its hard to come across.
For now, every candidate will tell voters what they want to hear, but it isn't until they're actually in the office, running our country will you see their true colors. The most we can hope for now, is someone who will lead us, and inform us to the best of his (or one day her) ability.

I agree with Anta, that the next president should have a plan as to how to handle the war in Iraq and taking our economy out of the hole that we have placed ourselves in. It is true that no candidate may know exactly what to do in Iraq, but any action has to be good action. As long as the new president has a plan of action and sticks to it, something will get done.
I would ask the question, although it may seem obvious, why on earth would you want to be president?
To me it seems like such a stressful job, and even though you are in charge of one of the world's superpowers you get little respect. The lives of an entire nation are riding on you, so why would you want that responsibility?
I also believe that the primary elections go on for too long. We have been hearing about the next presidential election for over a year and it is still eleven months away. I believe that by the time the poles are open we have heard so mouch of the candidates dirty laundry and listened to their smear campaigns against each other, that we are voting for the candidate with the least number of flaws and not the greatest number of strengths.

I agree with Tiffany and everyone who agreed with her, we need a president who is going to handle things, be smart, trustworthy, and honest. But the only thing is I feel our future president needs to have all these qualities and more. They need to be quick on their feet and know how to handle the pressure and stress of their job. They need to have a creative mind and be intelligent because there are certain issues that need to be handled differently. I agree with Kristen our president needs to be able to do stop the war. Our future president has to have goals and determination. My question would be How would they end the war?

I agree with everyone. We need a strong, smart, trustworthy, responsible, caring, determined president. The biggest problem we deal with is the war in Iraq. It is what we are looking for in this year’s campaign. We want to know what they are going to do and how they are going to change it. But my question to the future president would be, how are you going to deal with immigrants?

One question I'm deeply interested in when coming to picking a presidencial canidate is "what would you have done incase of the NEW ORLEANS disaster?", how would have you prepare your states that was intended to be hit by the hurricane? Or even your evacuation plans. We need a president strong enough not to fold under the constaint pressure that they go through, but also sensiative enough to handle some of slightest problems looking from both sides of the fence.
