Lockdown Disscussion
How is our school being treated in the eyes of the media? What suggestions do you have to prevent something like this from happening again? Should both the 15yrd old and the 16yr old be treated the same way in the eyes of the law? Why are they being treated differently?

I think they should give her a year in jail and a mental evaluation befor she just goes back in to the world. They should do this because a normal person would not do this not even as a joke. There for there has to be something wrong with her.

COURTENEY RICHARDSON
The media isn't doing anything but exadrarating a story of two little girls. As if stands of today , no one knows what really happen. Everyone is telling a story they don't KNOW!!! you got people talking about how the police came in with guns to arrest the students. ( p.s if that was to ever happen the police department would be in a whole heep of trouble for handling minors that way) Also you have people talking about people had guns and blah blah.... But I would prefer if everyone stop telling not true facts because its only a confusion. How can you ever prevent something like this from happening is a unpreventable, why I say so is because no one is in students corrupt mind and no one knows what others are thinking... Another, I feel that the 15 year old should be charged the same way as the 16 year old because she had part of it too... for them to say the 16 year old should get a year in jail because she's older and know better.. Not true..... they both put their brilliant minds together and planned this.. so they both should be charged the same.
Kids these days think its funny to do something like that. It's either they want to make the school look bad or they do it because it looks cool, without knowing the consequences. I felt like they shouldn't be arrested, but be suspended and kicked out from the school. However, who knows if they'll do it again, but I'm pretty sure they learned their lesson.

I totally agree with Cortney's point of view, on having both of the girls being charged equally.
Our school is being shown as a bad school to others I think by the media. I think having candid cameras would help alot. Also, during "Advisory", their should be a discussion on this kind of issue. The two girls, should be charged equally in the eyes of the law, since they both were involved. The two ladies are being treated differently, due to the age difference. You said, "the sixteen year old might even be facing one year in jail.
Why is it that the legal age is 18 and they charge 16 year old as adults? If a 16 year old hang out with a 15 year old than she can't be an adult she’s till a kid at heart she doesn’t really known too much of are rite and wrongs yet she's till immature. Every is till a joke to her. There no way a child should be charge as an adult. It’s a different story if she hangs out with 18 and 19 year olds than she will be a little more mature. If they are going to charge a 16 year old as an adult when the adult legal age is 18 than she should have the same rights as an 18 year old. She should be able to date 20 & 30 year man like an 18 year old would. They should just have them both go to family court she’s not 18 yet. It’s not fair that she just happen to true 16 before the other girl. 16 year old should not be charge as adults when they are till consider minors because the legal age is 18.

This parent was THERE waiting for her kid, thinking there was a terrible accident UNTIL I saw ten police cars facing the school. This was NO JOKE. These were no innocent little girls. One year jail is more than fair and the 15 year got "lucky". They both need mental health professionals.
How do the eight students feel who were threatened in this letter?
I agree with most of the students. I think that threat or prank, whatever way you want to put it, is very immature and it's not funny. It can really affect someone deeply and scare someone. Those two girls should absolutely be charged they way the law wants to charge them. They should be sent to jail. Even though if they were or weren't going to do it, still a threat. A threat is a Threat and you can go to jail for that. Both of them should be charged and punished the same way because they both did it.

I don't agree with Kemi's statement. Just because someone calls a younger person their friend doesn't lessen their maturity. By the age of 16, you should know right from wrong and what is lawful and unlawful. I believe that if the person knew what their actions could cause and endangered (or even ended) a life, then why not charge them as an adult. I don't think the 15 & 16 year olds should receive different punishments. We don't actually know if this was an even collaboration or if one person did more than the other. If they both went along with the idea, hoax or not, they should receive a just punishment.
It's so much easier to discuss this topic since most of us witnessed it first hand, and know the truth vs. the media. Though Courtney is right, and no one really knows the full story yet, we know better than the believe what has been said in the media. I've attended QHST for all my years of high school so far, and I know what that drill means, and what is expected of us when the code is announced. Students may have told the media no one knew what was going on or what to do, but we know that this is false. The way people chose to interpret our school now is up in the air.
Also, I didn't know the two girls personally, I've never heard of them, or to my knowledge seen them, so its easier to make a judgment of their fate from what I've heard and how I feel. They both deserve a year in jail for causing such a commotion such as the one we witnessed on Thursday. They also need a deep mental evaluation for even thinking this could be funny, or taken lightly. At 16 AND 15 you understand the seriousness of an action such as this. They should both get the short end of the stick.

It does make sense that an adult would be treated as such and a child would be treated as, well, a child. If an person becomes an adult at 18, then how can someone under that age be treated as such. Kemi was right when she made this point. If you are going to to try a person as an adult it only makes sense that they are an adult legally. That being said what the two girls did was very irrisponcible, not to mention stupid. I don't really think the sixteen year old should be charged as an adult, for all we know it could have been the fifteen year old's idea. At these ages, there is no real change in maturity, do you feel different on your birthday? Has there ever been that moment where you woke up on your birthday and just felt more responcible, more grown up?
I fully agree with Courteney Richardson “they both put their brilliant minds together and planned this… so they both should be charged the same.” It’s still unknown if anyone party had more to do with this “hoax” that they played there for they should both be tried equally no mater what. If ones gets 1 year in jail because she’s 16 while the other 15 year old gets off easy is sending the wrong message to the viewing public. Also I feel that the media is showing these schools in the wrong light just because one thing happened that can be considered a revolting act among schools.
I feel both girls no matter what ages they are should both get treated the same way because they both did the crime and caused a big problem fearing people lives. What they did was wrong and should have never been tooken that far because it was not a joke it involved people lifes in danger. The 15 and 16 year old both should serve jail time and get consueling. Theses student might be young but they sure know what they was doing and they should of think before they did it. Now and days you can never fine out the truth because many people tell tshere stories different and over exaggerate it more than it is and always twist the storie about the truth can never be told unless there's a camaras involve because the camaras holds the truth.

I feel as if the school in the media is being portrayed as if we did not know what to do in the situation. When the truth is that we were fully prepared and ready for such a problem. As far as the writers of the letters go I think since they both conspired to write the letter together they should both face the same punishment regardless the age.

Because of this whole thing, I think our school will be treated differently. Like Alyssa said, the public now thinks our school didnt know what to do in this kind of situation because of one persons remark. We have had drills and I, and other students, were fully aware of what to do. Honestly, I dont think theres that much we can do to prevent this from happening again. I mean, we can listen out and speak up when we hear about something that might happen, but other than that I'm not so sure. Obviously something must have been going on for the students to do this. Or maybe not. Maybe they just thought it would be funny and wanted to see what would happen. Either way, I think the 15 year old and 16 year old should be treated the same way. They both knew exactly what they were doing, and its completely ridiculous that just because the 15 year old is a minor she isnt getting the same punishment as the 16 year old.
The media i also think is just exaggerating a story of two girls. The media did makes our school look terrible and our reputation is pretty bad now. The suggestions I have to prevent this from happening again is the school being more strict. I know students will hate it but i feel that it is a privilege to have what we had and now that two girls destroyed that privilege, there is nothing else to do then just to pay for what happened. QHST is one whole school, no one should be separated. We get in trouble as a whole and we get rewarded as a whole. Those girls were probably made fun of so much that they wanted to play this joke for attention and that is us students fault for doing this to them. I mean it is there fault for coming up with such a disturbing joke but whatever happened has happened. We can only learn from this.
Both fifteen and sixteen year old girls should be treated the same because just because the sixteen year old isn't a juvenile doesn't mean she should get in more trouble and the fifteen year old gets in less trouble just because she is a juvenile. This isn't fair because you don't know if the fifteen year old girl was the one who first came up with the idea to write the letter. Fifteen year old should be treated the same way because she took part of it. If the sixteen year old girl is going to jail for a year then so should the fifteen year old.

I agree with Courtney and
Manpreet that the girls should be charged equally because they were in it together and just because of age they are set in to different paths. Our school is being treated bad in the eyes of the media because noone has the whole story so they add things that may not be true. Do you think this will ever happen again?
I agree with Wesly. If you punish the 16 year old and not the 15 year old then thats sending the wrong message to other minors in this world. Thats basically saying that a 15 year could get away with robbery or attempted murder with no consequences to abide by but a slap on the wrist. What people need to do in a situation like this is shutup and stop spreading false rumors because it causes bigger problems. Wait for the REAL facts and inform others.
I agree with Jonathon, I feel that the media is making the school look bad by telling others how we don’t know what to do in that situation. I agree with Alyssa, I feel that you can’t really prevent this from happening again. We need to be respecting each other and talking with each other. I mean, we can listen out and speak up when we hear about something that might happen. Something must have been going on for the students to do this or maybe they just thought it would be funny and wanted to see what would happen. Either way that was wrong and should be punished for it. I feel that both girls should be treated equally because it was both their idea not just the 16 year olds. Also I think its wrong for that the 16 year old should be treated as an adult because she is not yet 18. And here in the U.S. you have to be 18 to be legal.
i think the media is doin their job. We have children in this school who thinks its funny to play with people lives. the media is just giving the info that were giving and are reporting it. Especially since it was a prank. the media is just gettin the info out to thoes who did not know
