Justices Agree on Right to Own Guns

With the right to bear arms being revisited by the Supreme court, how can we ensure the crime with guns will decrease with stricter laws?

If everyone had access to guns would the crime rate drop?

Are trigger locks the answer to protect accidents int he home?

Do criminals have an advantage during a home invasion?

It’s not going to decrease because with all the laws we have now people still has illegal guns and legal guns that are used in a crime. if every one had access to guns the rate of people dieing might go up more than worrying about the crime rate going up because like what damo said in class they might want to use the gun for unsure things. I don’t thing that crimes has an advantage in a home invasion because some people must not want to lock there guns and people have home and shield or ADT to precept them from home invasion? If every one has a gun than doesn’t that mean the alarms like home and shield or ADT will go out of business? And by having a gun doesn’t that take away the propose of having cops and F.B.I to proctor us aren't we doing there job by taking matters in to our own hands and trying to get justice on our own?

If everyone had access to guns, the crime rate wouldn't drop because if a person were to get into a big fight, that person would've took out his gun and shoot the other people just because of a fight. Also, if a person hated their friend's friend, that person would shoot him/her because of that, so how would the crime rate drop? No, trigger locks aren't the answer to protect accidents in the home because your child or anybody at home were to play around with it, they might accidentally unlock it w/o knowing, so it isn't safe. Criminals do have an advantage during a home invasion because they're able to take the guns and use it.

The crime with guns will not decrease with stricer laws, because it will make people want to break the law even more. There will be more of an rebillion due to the strict laws.
More people have guns because they feel the police is not protecting them well them that well. The fear of not being fully protected by the police makes people get a gun. Such as, the Shaun Bell Case, where a male was killed by the police even though he was not doing anything worng. After that incident, I think most of the people that knew Bell are more frightened and might buy a legal weapon for their own protection.

I have to agree with Tiffany one hundred percent when it comes to the idea that more guns equals less crime. The people in Florida feel differently. When it comes down to it people do have the right to bear arms, but its a thing that should not be taken lightly. Those that say more guns being available to people will decrease crime rats have never been victims of gun crimes themselves. I am speaking from personal experience when I say the idea of all my neighbors buying guns after one of them went and had to be subdued by the police because he fired off shots and refused to go quietly does not make me feel safer. It makes me feel like I would need to get out of there as fast a humanly possible and most of them feel the same way. Oh and no one needs a machine gun or a grenade launcher and yet there are places where they can be bought for "hunting". Because as we all know it takes a grenade to kill a deer.

My arguement in the class was that for some reason i dont believe the gun crime will increase. Why i say so is because who's really going to come up and admit that they have a gun. Some people have gns cause they feel that they are protecting even though that it isnt legal or registered. IF everyone had guns and they all were registered and legal i think people wouldnt do as much crimes cause they can easily track you down. [ if i am correct]. Also it takes time for a person to unlock a trigger lock so the burgular can do whatever and probably harm you by time your gun is ready cause dont forget you have to load up your gun too. I jsut feel like there will always be a gun crime no matter how much the police try and clean it up

we can never insure that gun crimes will decrease unless we totally eliminate gun accessibility from citizens who don't have the proper authority to have a gun. If every1 had access to a gun that would just increase gun crime rate, people would be irrational and shoot each other for the simplest things just because they have a gun. Trigger locks are not the answer because they can take time to unlock, and your not suppose to keep loaded guns in your house in the first place so then you also have to take the time to load the gun. By then the perpetrator will have already attacked and done what he came to do. Criminals may have the advantage depending on how professional they are, and how prepared the home owners are during a home invasion.

I agree with Domonique to an extent. The only way gun crimes will decrease is if they aren't accesible to each & every citizen. But if the right to own guns is fully approved, then it put limits on what we call gun "crimes". It can't be a crime if everyone has the means to commit it. If we give everyone a gun, the only crime is if they commit mass murder (if its possible).

I agree with what some of the students have said. I believe that if everyone had access to guns, the crime rate wouldn't drop. As matter fact, it would increase because for example, if someone has a fight or arugument and they lose their temper and go crazy, they can pull out a gun at anytime and shoot the person. It is very dangerous to have guns at home especially if someone has kids. That's why people shuld have security shields such as ADT.

The crime rate would drop if more people had access to guns because not only would people be less likely to get into a fight for fear of it, but also most crimes that are committed are done with illegal guns. You would not want to get into a fight even if you had a gun if you thought the other person had one, because their is the opportunity of your expiration. It does not take away from police or f.b.i. it would be a scary world if the public had no access to guns for protection because then the police and all other government officials would have the utmost control, and with vulnerability comes people taking advantage (in no way am I saying that u.s. govt is taking over, it is just a point) during the revolutionary war, we were never given any rights, and due to thatwe thought to fight against an army. By trying to take away the rights that we so long ago fought for I find it very frightening and disheartening.

I got an idea, get a gun and go hunting or target shooting with it. wut, are u cool if you shoot som1 with it? I also got a serious idea, how bout they make a law that says you need a certain ammount of gun saftey training to buy a gun or rent one.

A gun is a tool. It's only as evil as the person who is using it. I grew up in a home and community where guns were as common as silverware, and guess what? We had VERY little gun crime, and if i'm not mistaken, most gun crime is commited with illegal guns. Criminals will always have guns. Why would you ever want to take a means of self protection out of the hands of responsible citizens? In my opinion, the police do a great job, but the problem is that they cannot be everywhere at once. My brother was mugged recently in Austin. He was jumped from behind and struck with a pipe while two men tried to go through his pockets. He was able to fight them all three off, and all four went to the ER with terrible injuries. My brother is ok but the bloody fistfight (and pipe fight) opened wounds all over all of them. Turns out, one of the attackers is HIV positive and because of my brother's open wounds he is now suspected of having contracted the disease. If it were easier for him to own a gun, or openly carry a gun, this attack on him may even have been avoided in the first place. And still, he may have been able to end the fight quickly by shooting one of his attackers. Most people don't want to be shot.

Either way, a man has a right to protect himself when he is in immediate danger. The people who are immature enough to pull their gun in a petty argument wont do it too many times :P

Crimes of Passion and "Violent Gun Crime" are two different scenarios all together. The country's population has lost that general respect for their fellow citizen. MAYBE if everyone has the means to protect themselves, some of that respect will come back.

Don't let your fear and misunderstanding of guns get the best of you.

OH and for the record, "machine guns" and "grenade launchers" aren't sold for "hunting." Those are Class 3 or "all other weapons" classified firearms. You can't be just anyone walking in there to buy them in the first place. You have to obtain the very expensive permits first. And the applicants to such permits are the most scrutinized in the usa when it comes to guns and owning them.

Security Systems aren't full proof, the police can't save you when you're being attacked, and good people don't do bad things just because they can. Don't let your imaginations taint common sense folks.

Do bank alarms prevent robbery?
Does a camera prevent crime?
Criminals dont listen to the law, only those who follow the law does the law apply to. A gun lock restricts the use of a gun, but what about the other firearm in the next house that isn't in a safe. Prevention only works if people help make it work. Making something less accesable only helps in the short term. Looking for somehting long term is whats needed.

In the old west,or the days of the cowboy, everyobe had guns... this is necessary 2 even the odds, because u know if u shoot, some1 is gona shoot back... but nowadays, mostly criminals hav guns, and i don't trust the cops with guns either.. how do v know all cops r clean heh? so, i tink if any1 should hav a gun,every1 shud... that creates a balance... but people must learn 2 respect the gun and learn how 2 handle it safely.... the other solution is 2 ban gun al2gheter... but v all know that's not gona happen...

In counties with a higher gun to person ratio, 53:100, the crime ratio is much lower, 12:100,000. In counties with a much lower gun to person ratio, 2:100, the crime rate is much higher, 843:100,000. Don't believe me? Well get a book, or look on the internet, or do something to educate yourself. Someone came into my garage and stole gas out of my grandfather's car, what did he do? He grabbed his 12 gauge and scared the theif away. Also, 2 out of every 100 crimes involving guns were with illegal assault weapons, weapons that are already illegal, banning all guns would make 100 out of 100 crimes with guns used with illegal weapons. More crimes and killings are commited each year by hands and knives than guns, should we also ban knives and hands? Think about it.
