FEBRUARY!!

Should sitting presidents write OP-ED pieces for newspapers?
How do presidents in ther first 100 days in office use thier popularity to push an agenda?
How did FDR use his popularity?
What about JFK?
"All this will not be finished in the first 100 days. Nor will it be finished in the first 1,000 days, nor in the life of this Administration, nor even perhaps in our lifetime on this planet. But let us begin."
- JFK Innaugarational Address.

Everybody wants to know how we should react to Obama's plan to start the resoultion of America's recession. And as we already know, his plan didnt roll over with the republicans b ut Obama still hasnt decided to come up with a new paln yet. Some people think its because Obama thinks that America wants this new plan in action. But as i stated in class today, "AMERICA HAS NO IDEA WHAT WE WANT"..And as Mr. Brown stated, "WE JUST WANT THINGS TO BACK TO THE WAY THEY WERE TOW MONTHS AGO"..I believe that Obama should just follow his heart in this situation becuase truthfully, no matter what he does ; we are most definitely going to find a way to complain about it. We already know that he is man enough admitt his mistakes and he is already in office. So I believe that he should do what ever he thinks is going to get us out of this situation........

Yes they should. I love it as a frequent newspaper reader when sitting presidents write Op-ed pieces for newspapers. It provides their opinion in-depth and one may get interested in seeing how the president used their words and what they said.

An incoming administration pushes their agenda on being new and bringing on their own change. Announcing executive orders on their first day of office and first 100 days. What if those executive orders are unconstitutional? These are the types of laws presidents push for using their popularity in the first 100 days.

FDR was up against turmoil and finding swift ways and ideas to reverse the depression. In his time his popularity founded his plans. Trying to do whatever he can by breaking the laws and making the laws. The panic didn't permit him to stay back and not act aggressively

JFK set the record straight near the end of his historic Inaugural Address. JFK stayed in his limits while he was very popular. In his first 100 days, he signed an executive order to create the Peace Corps and ordered the Bay of Pigs invasion in an attempt to overthrow Castro with Cuban rebels trained by the CIA. Kennedy failed as Cuban forces defeated the rebels. Not much occured during his first 100 days when it came to making laws and announcing major policy changes. He used his popularity to fight the Communist and challenge the Soviets.

Things are clearly going to have to change, and if Americans want to restore the economic freedoms they had two months ago, they're in for a rude awakening (if we haven't begun one already).
Nobody ever said the free enterprise system couldn't work. President Obama has never said he hopes to get rid of it. Obama and FDR would both tell you it's not capitalism that has led to this recession, its those who have taken advantage of it. It's not just rich people that have led us here, many rich people are hardworking individuals. It is the greedy, the slimy and the irresponsible that have led us to this point. If Americans want to return to two months ago, they should have voted Republican or put some white-out on the Constitution to get Bush in for another term (G-d help us). What was happening two months ago failed us. What Americans need to do is not ponder on what has failed us, but spend their money wisely. What it seems like America is waiting for is tips and suggestions from Obama and his administration to help fix the economy and many of our other troubles. Americans may not be willing to accept that, which proves even more how big a whole we are in not only financially, but morally.
In the age of technology, I find nothing wrong with Obama writing an op-ed in the Washington Post. This situation should be taken seriously. The necessary precautions and steps to slowly return us to economic stability and prominence need to be broadcasted across the media radio waves and all over the country.

And this doesn't make sense to me: If America has no idea what they want, then why do you think they want things to go back to the way they were two months ago?

American does know what they want. It's don't raise my taxes, in need of free health care, jobs, low gas prices, help for the middle class and asking the government and elected officials are you for me or are you a sell out?

How were things two months ago? What was the presidential election all about?

Obama's stimulus plan/spending bill has alot of junk in it. To a certain extent Republicans are right to delay the process. There is wasteful spending in the bill and as last night they worked on eliminating $88 Billion from the bill. People don't wanna know that money is being wasted on useless things that won't create jobs. His plan is getting rediculed and no pork should be included.

I agree 100% with JFK's Innaugarational Address. Everything is not going to go our way. Everyone makes mistakes and and luck eventually runs out. Yeah we are not going to have world peace any time soon but why not try? Just because it seems impossible to accomplish doesn't mean we shouldn't work at it. America can do a lot of great things but then it always follows up with a bad thing.

Our Country is Just scared because things have changed. so their starting to get mad with Obama because they fell like because they voted for him, thay at that moment he got elected everything was going to change at that very moment. NAH!!, things dont work like.

I think having Op-ed pieces from the president is great, it’s an unedited version of exactly what they want for the country and it also helps Americans feel that the President is speaking directly to us not through the media.

However, I don't think that Obama should keep using the fact that he got elected in November as his defense to everything. It shows a bit of cockiness and that is not how I President should be portrayed.

I believe that Presidents should be able to write Op-Ed pieces for newspapers, It's kind of like reading a persuasive essay, you can see his point of view. So far he's been using the media as a way to push his ideas, most people go with what he says because of his popularity. During the debates, we always thought of President Obama as someone who would sit and listen and then make decisions but he turned out to be more like FDR. America is expecting some serious radical change before these first 100 days run out, lets wait and see if he runs out of the popularity he's been running high on.

I agree to what Sana A. had said that "it is a great way for the President to show how he feels through an Op-ed piece, rather than
the media." It simply shows us citizens what Obama is doing or what he has planned for ahead. Obama to me, is trying to go really fast on what he is doing. I agree with the othrs as they say that Obama is more like FDR.

I really believe that the President should really use his first 100 days has an advantage. The first 100 days, eveybody will have the President's back and always support him in whatever he says because were all in the prisoner of the moment when a new President gets elected. President Obama should really use his the people on his side more because everyone believes in him and has full confidence in him.

I think it's a good thing because it is a easy down to Earth way for the normal person to be able to understand the things that are happening in washington in the eyes of the president himself. This is one of the things that America as a nation over the years have been lacking. The government have been running the country in the backgrounds and only coming to the light when there is a problem. Now with Mr.Obama he is keeping us up to date on the good and bad things. I actually as an American would appreciate it more if there were more letters more often.

I think Obama should write OP-ED pieces in the newspapers because they make us keep up with what his plans are since they are changing because of Congress, they wont pass his bills. As for the 100 days thing, so far he has done a lot of good things and im pretty sure 100 days havent passed yet so there are still more good left the come from him plus 4 years. Its pretty much up from here out because i hope theres nothing else that can make our situation even worse.

I think obama really have to come up with plans because nothing really working out for American now. People give full support for obama and he need to do something to reset everything. I believe obama will take the apportunity to speed up what ever he is trying to do in this situation.

I believe presidents do not need to write any Op-ed pieces in any newspapers. I think this because I believe they should do something else with their free time. I rather have a president come on the T.V and explain any issues he has concerns regarding, rather then just reading about it. Who knows he might hire people to write his pieces just like Bush had someone write his speeches! I do agree with what Hemant has said, Hundred days is a lot for someone to prove themselves good or bad . These 100 days are usually crucial for the president because they are waiting for him to take major actions, or at least discuss them with the public. President Obama is well prepared for it and I believe he has nothing to worry about.

I believe that Op-ed shouldn't be used as Rajvir said the first 100 days are crucial for the president. So there isn't enough time to be thinking about Op-ed. The first 100 days is the time for the president to prove himself capable of handling the country and making the choices everyone is expecting them to make. It's actually the hardest time because they have to try their best in order to prove what they once said to the people also to bring change to the country and make it better. So throughout those 100 days the president has a hard job and instead of making the Op-ed he could be using that time to get prepared to be and do his best.

I think that presidents should be able to write op-ed pieces in order to let the people know what is happening and how they must contribute to change. Also it allows easy access rather than him reading something on the television. But overall I must say it was brilliant idea of Obama to write one because you can get into his mind and almost understand or grasp the concepts that in order for change to happen we should meet him half way

As a new president I tend to think that the first 100 days in office are very crucial. So far, many people think he is going to make a difference. Both FDR and Obama agree that capitalism isn't what brought us the econmic crisis. It's all of those rich snobs who cant get enough money in their pockets.

THe Obamas Op-ed was good because, it said it straight from him not from someone else's opionion, and thats what the people like. He shouldnt be mentioning all the time that he was elcted because thats not nessassary. It also shows that he has a plan to change the next 100 days.
