Obama's First 100

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2009/04/29/us/politics/200900429_OBAMA_100DAY.html#

Why has the name of the super flu changed?

Listen again to the first 6 mins of his speech, what has the government done to protect us further from this outbreak?

Listen again to the first and second question he is asked, is the media giving too much attention to St. Francis Prep's swine flu?

The reason they cannot call the flu virus the swine flu is because the farmers specifically farmers who grow pigs. When they're saying that it comes from pigs it is making people not want to by pork products which will eventually hurt the economy and farmers pockets.
The first few questions that he was asked was about the swine flu and how the government will be able to contain the virus. To me this was just an excuse for the president to not talk about the poor economy, car companies and wall street. Also if this situation was so seriuos then they would be an immediate call back of all pork product and telling people to not eat pork.
I personally don't believe theres a big problem i just think that there's a regular virus going around .

The flu name changed because American main exports in pigs, since everyone thinks it comes from pigs, noone will invest in them. That would hurt the American economy alot. The president doesnt have much to say about the flu because it is another issue he has to deal with as being in charge, and as him taking actions, i thought it was pretty funny while he was telling Americans to wash there hands and cover there mouths. I think if there viruse was as serious as everyone including the media has been saying more would have been done to prevent it to be even spreading.

I feel that this swine flu case is being seemed bigger than it really is because people are putting so much attention into it. This is a strong issue but we shouldn’t be so focused on it because we have to deal with things that are more important like getting the economy back up. If it was such a harmful issue everyone would be taking way more precautions, there would be many more steps to help protect ourselves and many more actions would be taken.

Since every news cast graded Obamas first 100 days, im going to do the same, and i would give him a B. I think Obama did an okay job so far, hes trying to do the best he can to make America recover from its recession. Even though some businesses are out, and the swine flu, and other minor problems are occuring now, he is still trying. Theres no way America would be fix during his forst 100 days, not even if a super genuis robot was in charge, its not possible. All we can do is hope that he continues to try for the rest of his term and America can finally turn to the right direction.

The name of the swine flu has changed to protect our pork exports. The government wants us to cover our mouths when we cough, wash our hands, and don't go around licking subway poles. There is too much attention going around about the virus, all cases in the United States are mild. It's like hot sauce, mild is seriously like nothing. We don't go around wearing masks if the cold is coming around...unless you had really bad plastic surgery. However, this "pandemic" is pretty distracting.

The name of the flu has changed because of damages to the pork industry because of the term "swine flu". The swine flu does not come from pigs or pork so there is no cause for alarm. It is pointless to ignore pork because of this scare, there is no more danger than there was before this incident. I had ribs for lunch yesterday and I'm fine!
It is kind of funny that the President of the United States is telling his citizens to wash their hands as a tip to avoid getting this flu. Didn't we know that already?
I went out to dinner last week on Francis Lewis Blvd and there were FIVE news trucks in front of St. Francis Prep. It usually isn't a good thing when a school is on the news. Prep is just a place like all the others where the flu has reached. It is because it is the largest Catholic private school in the country that it is getting the most attention.

The name of this super flu has changed to N1H1 flu because the swine flu stood for something with pigs. This flu has really nothing to do with the pigs. Farmers who export pigs are having many problems because of the name. I honestly think, this is becoming a bigger issue for no reason. I think the media has given to much attention to St. Francis Prep. I think this whole N1H1 flu is such a BIG EXCUSE for us to forget about the bigger issues that are going on right now.

i believe people are so bored and tired of hearing about the economical recession that they need a new thing to hear all over the news and radio. there fore we have "the swine flu'. the media has extended this virus so much that its pathetic having to watch the president of united states teaching you and giving you tips on how to be hygenic.

I agree with RKaur, it does seem as if the media is bored and tired of the economic issues. Now everything you hear about is swine this or swine that. Everything becomes something bigger than it really is with the media. Now that the swine flu has a new name maybe it’ll die down a little.

I think that St. Franis Prep is getting more attention than was nessecary about the swine flu outbreak. They could have dealt with the situation and not created such a scare. I think it was partially to take our attention away from the other problems going on at the moment. Even when some of them are really more important.

I also agree with Matt, why does the government have to remind us to wash our hands and keep our hands away from our face. Didn't we go over this stuff in elementary school?!

The flu name changed because most people think that swine flu came from pigs so nobody can blame anyone or who is going to invest about this viruse. I think that flu issue is getting more spreading but we have many other things to handle and take actions towards.

The name has changed because it kills the farmers product. People will stop buying pork and it will kill the business. I agree with Matthew B. when he said "To me this was just an excuse for the president to not talk about the poor economy, car companies and wall street" Obama doesn't have the answers to those problems so he distracts the society with this flu.

Swine flu is not an excuse because despite it being a major headline there are also other issues making news in the midst of it. Instead we ought to be having a discussion on the new administration's first 100 days, and what he should be doing during his first term.

So far, the adminsistration has kept the economy in balance. The escalating war in Afghanistan, negotiations with Iran, 2010 Fiscal Year budget, and health care are in the forefront. During the days of the swine flu all these issues were still being reported on. Swine flu is just a regular flu and nothing serious.

The name of the flu has changed from swine flu to the N1H1 flu because it hurts our pork industry. Americas big export is pigs,so if people believe that this flu is coming from pork, people would stop buying pork products and it would hurt our economy. In my opinion people are freaking out a little too much about this flu and this has gotten a little out of hand. This thing is just to distract us from the real problems in America like the economical recession.

Obama's first 100 days have been pretty good. Obama has faced adversity and is doing a great job dealing with it. The economy has been doing better. He kept the panic level to a halt and he managed to not have people going extremely crazy from the recession. But you have to Obama his props because he had to deal with more and more unpredicted conflicts. The Israel conflicts didn't make his job easier and even the Pakistan conflicts as well. Now, there is a new flu spreading called the swine flu, where once again Mr. Obama wants everyone to be calm. So far he's doing a great job dealing with all the issues, and what people has to understand he's not perfect and he needs time to fix everything or at least to make an attempt to. In my opinion i think he's doing a great job and handling everything the best way he can.

Wow 100 days already. That was quick. Time flys but any way the reason for the name changing of the swine is because people were killing off pigs. People thought that if you ate pork then you can get really sick. To me that is crazy and i knew that was not the reason for the swine flu.

Swine Flu is a way to grab some attention from the people. Putting this Swine Flu into account, the media or government is trying to get the "minds of people off of Wall Street and Car Companies" as Matt B had said. Yes, I agree that Obama has or is trying his best to fix things that are bad. If not, an attempt to fix it will make the people less worried. The economy is doing a little better. Also, the president trying to tell us to wash our hands and do OBIVIOUS things is just pathethic.

The swine flu scare is just a big overblown media project to direct our questions away from things that have already been answered. St. Francis is getting more attention than it deserves, which should just be a 3 minute blurb on the evening newscast.
Obama telling us to wash our hands defines the sad state of things in America. It shows that we need reminding of things that we learned in kindergarten. It shows we can't think for ourselves in the most basic of hygiene tasks.

Just like every other thing the media puts on TV, the swine flu has just as much of an effect to the economy as well as everything else. So it was the presidents job to make sure that this flu would harm the pork market and insure safety to his country. Even though America is full of big boys and girls they still have to be treated like their not.
