At 1am in the morning, not many people will be watching TV; the majority of them will be sleeping, or preparing to leave on vacation. During this time, the Democrats were trying to pass the Health Care Bill. I believe that the Democrats are trying hard to pass this bill, but at the same time, concealing the consequences to the passing of the bill. According to John McCain, passing this bill will be like “stealing from future generations, putting them into another two and a half trillion dollar debt”, “Don’t give them an unfair policy where deals are done in back rooms”. The Democrats are looking at the immediate effect of passing the Health Care Bill, which would be health care for all, which is beneficial. But the Republicans are presenting issues, which are long-term effects, of putting the future nation in debt, and those people that would take advantage and find a way to abuse the health care system.
after watching the videos and reading the article in class. i think that the democrats are doing this bill passing in the early morning because they do not want the American people knowing what they are passing. the holidays seasons are not the best time to broadcast information to the public because everyone is consumed with their holiday and vacation. so i think the democrats are trying to capitalize on this.
The Democrats are passing the health care bill in the middle of the night because, when they are called back in the office in the middle of the night people are tired, and people just want to go home. In the middle of the night, there are less chances of a Republican asking "to read the bill out loud", there are less chances of them wanting to change points in the bill, because until a decision is made, they don't get to go home. The fact that its on Christmas Eva means that the people want to go home and spend time with their families, so they are all going to be in a hurry, which means that they are most likely to vote for the bill to pass, and get it over with. This is why the Democrats are trying to pass the bill in the middle of the night.
I believe the democrats are passing bills in the wee hours of the morning because while America is sleeping they are playing the game of politics. President Obama and americans believe this health care can make a difference for families, for seniors, for businesses, and for the country as a whole, but there are also people who dislike the idea. So whoever is determined to know the current actions on the bill, will probably be up waiting and watching the t.v screen ready for the results especially on Christmas Eve at 7oclock.
The purpose of the Democrats passing bills in the wee hours on Christmas eve is to hopefully keep the Republicans from wanting to spend a majority of their holiday, and family time in the meeting, and forcing them to continuously read the bill over and over, and find a reason for them to NOT pass it. It's basically all a ploy to "distract" them from being a part of the bills being pass.
Democrats decided to pass bill in the “wee hours” of the morning for a multiple amount of reasons. Firstly I think they decided that if they informed the public about the bill in the morning, there would be a high chance not many people would see it. Another reason as to why they count the votes on Christmas Eve is because they figure the Republicans would want to rush there decision making to get back to their families. That they wouldn’t oppose to the bill because their main concern would be getting home. Lastly I think they announce the “Health Care” bill on Christmas Eve so people automatically assume it is what right for the American people because they are in the joy of the holiday season.
After watching the video and reading the article in class I think that the Democrats are passing the "health care" bill in the wee hours of the morning for not one but a few reasons. Calling everyone in so early in the morning on Christmas eve they probably thought that everyone would just vote so they can just all go home. They most likely thought that everyone just wanted to get the voting over with as fast as they can so they can go home to their families. Another reason for passing the bill so early in the morning is so that the majority of the public won't know about it. Not many people would be up so early in the morning on Christmas eve watching the news. They are either sleeping, getting ready to go away, or even partying. This is why I think that the Democrats are trying to pass the bill in the "wee hours" of the morning.
The democrats are passing bills in the wee hours of the morning becuase no one is focused. Everyone is focused on going on vacation preparing to go to sleep for hours. Since everyone is focused on that, passing the bill now would be a good idea since they would just give quick decisions. Informing the bill to the public in the morning seems like a good idea becuase a lot of people wouldn't be up to watch the news. It's christmas eve...Who wants to be mad around that time when they are in the spirit of joy? I don't think anybody wants to which is why the bill seems like a good idea to pass at the time.
Theres rules n regulations that tells them a period that a bill tat can be put though the floor for a vote that 1am was the 1st time they can bring that bill to a vote to keep in the time period set by the procedure. It is not as some people will say that they wanted the vote to be done 1 in the morning while everyone is sleeping.
I personally think that the democrats are passing this during the 'wee hour' because at that time many people will not have a chance to see it. Also because I think that they might not want others (republicans) to see it. Even though they will be able to. But it's something they want done 'there way', so they can get people to vote when they want them to at 1 am which isn't exactly a great time for many people.
I think that the Democrats are trying passing the health care bill so early in the morning so it will have a greater chance of passing. One Christmas Eve no on is going to want to have the bill read aloud or have a long lengthy debate about it. Everyone would want get the voting over with as fast as they can so they can go home to their families. Another reason is that the public will not really notice or care that the bill has been passed and it will be able to fly under the radar of it opponents for a while.
After reading the article, i think democrats dont want Americans knowing about the bill they are passing. At 1am most people are watching a comedy show, a movie, or sleeping. most people dont watch the news at that time of night. They just want the ability to say they did inform Americans when choas starts. During the holidays many people are scrabbling around making sure that they have the nessecary items for their vacation or dropping of presents at the homes of their friends and family
Democrats are passing bills early in the morning due to the lack of audience they would have. No one cares enough to sit and wait, early in the morning for a bill to pass. There's also less of a chance someone would vote to have changes in the bill because of the holidays and wanting to be around family. I'm sure the Democrats take full advantage of of those reasons.
What the democrats are doing is that they're doing some what of a game plan. They already know that not alot of people are watching Tv 1 in the morning and if they are it's not the news. What democrats do is that they're being informative but also secretive. They're addressing the information but at the time where the nation as a whole is watching it together. The main focus of this is that they dont want to be center of attention.
I think that the democrats are doing this bill passing in the late a night because they do not want the American people knowing what they are passing.
The use of the filibuster is a very trying way to win a vote, especially when the christmas vacation would be coming up. I think that first off, putting the hearing the night of christmas eve would prevent unrest among the public and let them pass the vote, and second, it should also prevent another replay of having a filibuster movement passed, so that they can all leave before christmas comes & goes. It feels like the senate has to have its hand held to prevent them from pulling off nonsense like filibusters, thereby wasting everyone's time. I don't think that airing it late at night would have made a huge difference in the size of the people watching it. Most people don't know what channel C-SPAN is on. I think the hearing is more geared to the sleepless in the government who would need to know the results of the hearing. At the end of the day, they're probably not worried about the whole public's opinion, as they are a select few.
Obviously, they want to try and have as little attention as possible. It’s a real cunning move but it works. The bill is discussed at the most inconvenient time so that people are unable to focus on it and are more interested in getting home to their families. No one really likes to stay up late at night to watch a bill being passed because it’s long and draining. Everything is done intentionally but low key so that people don’t realize it’s happening. It’s easier when the American people are focused on their families and the holiday spirit rather then worrying about political issues.
It seems obvious that Democrats feel this is the best time to pass this bill. While they still take the neccesary measures to announce the points of the bill to the people of America. It is common knowledge that everyone will be busy with holiday activities. In addition, to hold such meetings at such time, so early in the morning, it is an obvious attempt to put stress and pressure on their opponents so things go their way.
I think that democrats are passing bills at ridiuclous hours for the simple reason that no one is watching. No one is home on christmas eve watching this, they are spending time with their family. And democrats don't want to spend alot of time reading over the bill at 1 am, they want to go home and get it over with. So there is a less of a change that the bills would be read over or discussed.
The reason why Democrats were trying to pass this bill during those hours are because most of the nation were preparing for the holidays and such. For example, the Republican of Tennessee said, "It's obvious why the majority has cooked up this amendment in secret, has introduced it in the middle of a snowstorm, has schedulede the Senate to come in session at midnight, has scheduled a vote for 1 a.m., is insisting that it be passed before Christmas - because they don't want the American people to know what's in it." The whole voting process on Christmas Eve was a clever method to get what they wanted.
The Democrats were passing bills on Christmas eve in the wee hours of the morning. This was a smart and sneaky move on behave of the Democrats, I don't believe that many people were watching the news at 1am especially on Christmas Eve. The democrats are really determined to pass this bill, but at the same time they are trying ti hid bits and pieces of the bill from the people, so that they don't get outraged or upset because the bill being passed isn't exactly what they want.
I believe that they wanted to pass the bill in the early morning hours because as i recall it was christmas weekend and all the republicans who believed that the democrats had the majority or the 2/3rds majority rule. so they would not show up and the democrats would have the bill passed thanks to all that wanted to spend christmas with there families instead of the rest of congress.
