In the world today their are lots of people out their that are importing illegal drugs in this country. Becuase the drug is illegal people desire it more and the use of the substance gets abused. I feel that they shouldn't makes illegal drugs for medical purposes. The reason these drugs are illegal is becuase of the side affects on people. What if the patient that needs the drug gets addicted to the drug and abuse it in the wrong way. Also this can turn into a controversy becuase its not fair for doctors to have the ability to contain illegal drugs but not other people. What if the a doctor that is able to contain the illegal drug decides to take some and make money off of it? What doctors should is experiment on the substance to find out what ingredient works and what doesn't so that the patient using the drug doesn't get addicted. Society shouldn't give a certain group more power than the other becuase were suppose to be EQUAL. =)

Yes I believe states should be able to retain the rights to decide the use of illegal drugs for medical purpose. Every state has their own issues and needs, so it would be ridiculous for the federal government to be able to have copmplete control over all the state rights/laws. The illegal drugs are legal in certain states for a reason mainly medical purposes. If they would pay the people growing the weed for the medical purpose maybe the issue of the selling of the weed illegally wouldn't be such an issue. Another issue with the federal government having control over the rights of states is that it becomes somewhat like a communism situation. The federal governemtnt says GO and the people have to start moving;they have no voice.

Yes I believe that the states should be able to use the illegal drugs that for medical purpose because example if the state university had make a experiment to see if the use of the drug is good for the people and it is good for sertain sickness then the state should retain the rights of the uses to the illegal drug for medical purposes. like to what adetayo said in her response I agree to it. thay should reseve the right to conduct the experiment with out goin to the goverment for federal exempition.

I think states should retain the rights to decide the use of illegal drugs for medical purposes. The drugs are illegal for a reason and most likely have dangerous side effects. People could abuse the leniency of the state if they allow the drugs to be used. On the other hand, this could make people want to grow their own drugs and sell it which would take away from the states profits. People would stop using it for themselves and just use the drugs to make a profit.

I honestly don't think the states should retain the right to decide the use of illegal drugs for medical purposes. Obviously the drugs are illegal for a reason and the statement read in class stated that the long term effects are far greater than the immediate effects. Personally, I believe that when different states make different rules and regulations regarding one specific topic, it creates chaos throughout the whole nation. Whereas if the federal government made one rule for the whole nation to follow, it wouldn't create chaos because everyone would be on the same page with what they can or cannot do. All in all, I think the state government shouldn't interfere or contradict with the laws the federal government has already established.

I believe the states should have the right to decide if drugs can be used for medical use. I personally believe that they should not penalize the patients who lives can be saved by drugs because of the people who will abuse the drug. The people misusing the drugs are only affecting themselves, they should be held responsible for their death or anything that happens to them. They should be aware of the risk that they are taking. The state’s job is to do whatever is necessary to help the citizens; they should not take away the lives of innocent sick citizens because of the negligent of others citizens.

Yes I do believe that states should retain their right to decide the use of illegal drugs for medical purpose. The way I feel this way is because even though states are the little pieces that make up the United States there each different and require their own rules. Every state has different population, land size, and resources and due to the there need their own laws. Especially when it comes to what drugs to give to certain people who need it. Let’s say that 15% of a state’s residents have an illness and the only way to cure or to take down pain is the use of an illegal drug. If the government had it’s way then all those people will die or be in incredible pain just because the government felt to make this country and an dictatorship.

I believe states should be able to retain the rights to decide the use of illegal drugs for medical purpose. The federal government should not be able to destroy any responsible law that a state has made. Medical use of drugs helps those in pain, helps them regain their appetite and controls nausea. The feeling a sick person get while on drugs is not the same as a person who is not sick, so I don’t believe there would be much abuse by the patients if they were to get better. I don’t believe it will drastically increase the use of drugs either, people at this very moment are using illegal drugs, and those who are desperate enough will always find a way to get them.

I don't believe individual states should have the right to decide if the use of illegal drugs for medical purposes is okay because when individual states make their own laws, where is the federal government suppose to come in? Once states start making their own laws it's going to be difficult to enforce the law. There are going to be many conflicts, one of them being something that Mr.Brown bought up in class, what if families are going on vacation and have to bring their medical drugs with them and that state doesn't allow medical drugs, how are you going to punish the person? i think this is just going to give people an excuse to think they can't be charged with a crime. Allowing individual states to make their own law is just going to cause many problems, so i believe we shouldn't let them do it. I think it should be up to the Federal Government.

"Do states have the power to overrule ferderal law?"

The United States of America were once seperated. And, as a result of the civil war that ensued, it became that the law making power of individual states were below those of the federal government. Unfortunately, though, this only came after the government used its power to regulate interstate commerce, in the name of banning slaves. With such a narrow berth in which to navagate their power, the federal government would be left powerless to regulate a non-commerce item of interest such as free, prescribed marijuana, unless they called the giving of all drugs items of commerce. And, the way that power is set up with the states, they have he power to overrule the federal government in something as big as making illegal drugs legal. If states are able to outmanuver the law of the government, then one day they might be able to escape a more serious ruling, one that borderline infringes upon our constitution. States shouldn't have he power to overrule the official stance of government rulings.

In my opinion I believe that the states should retain the right to decide the use of illegal drugs for medical purposes. I say this because in some/most states drugs are legal for medical reasons and who is the gov't to say we as the people cant have them. The people have no say even if this "illegal" drug can help save a life, or at least make them live a little bit longer.

Similar to the beliefs of almost everyone, I believe that the state should retain the right to decide the use of illegal drugs for medical purposes. Like what Neal,B said, each state requires their own rules. Each state is not the same, so there would be a bad outcome if the federal government created the rules for the nation as a whole to follow. Each state knows what is best for themselves, even if it has to do with the use of illegal drugs for medical purposes. I may not agree with the fact of making the use of illegal drugs legal for a state, since there would be those people that would take advantage of the right and sell the drugs, even though that is against the law, as the law removed the problem of growing the drugs without getting caught. If the drugs were prescribed by the doctor, and it is needed for a person to survive, I think that that should be the only exception for taking illegal drugs, no matter what state the person goes into. There is no reason why a person’s only way to survive is being confiscated as the person crosses the state line.

I do not believe that states should retain the right to decide the use of drugs, even for medical purposes. I say this because the same way under age drinking is illegal, there is a reason why that is the case. Apparently there is a reason why an illegal drug is illegal. Whether because of the side effect or the damage it can do to someones health. If it was ok for everyone to consume with no problem then the drug wouldn't be illegal. There has to be something elese, non illegal that can be done for patients every where.

i believe the state has every right to retain the right to use illegal drugs for medical purposes. i believe that the people who need the drugs should not be held back from the possibility of getting saved with the drugs. i say that if the people abuse the drugs, that will be them playing with there own life and that is there choice of dieing or living. i believe the states should look to whats best for the people. Thank You for reading my addition to the blog Mr. Brown.

Should states have the option to decide weather or not the use of illegal drugs for medical purposes is okay? In my opinion if drugs are considered “illegal” it’s for a reason. If this certain drug is going to help many people than I am sure that the Federal Government would make it legal. I feel that if the Federal Government is against a certain issue than the individual state has no right to go against it. I agree with Minoli that “Once states start making their own laws it's going to be difficult to enforce the law.”

No they shouldn't, I believe that if you start letting one use drugs for a medical condition, many others can act like they are sick and want to use drugs as well. even though they wold have to be medically proven to use drugs. Drugs have many side affects, some cause people to die. Having illegal drugs can cause many other to start using them for no purpose at all.

The states should be able to retain the rights to allow illegal drugs for medical purposes. Every single state in the United States have their own regulations and so each state stands out from one another. The feds cannot come into the state and automatically change the states rules just because it doesn't fit. These drugs will help those in pain. If the drugs aren't available, people will find a way to get their hands on it.

yes i believe that the states should be able to have the right to decide the use of illegal drugs for medical purpose. there are different states that have the use of illegal drugs for medical purpose because it's for there own purpose and needs. For example, if someone was sick and they needed some type of drugs but the states had decided that the drugs was illegal from the state they would die because the drugs is illegal in there states.

I believe states should't have the right to decide on the use of illegal drugs for medical purposes. The law is the law, so whatever is illegal should stay illegal. However I am compassionate to medical needs of people but I truly believe that people would fake a sickness just to have the right to use these illegal drugs.I also argee with Nadia when she stated that drugs are illegal for a reson, and the long term effects are far greater than the present effects that people are having.

In my own opinion I believe that the state SHOULD retain the right to decide the use of illegal drugs for medical purposes because it would cut out a middle man so to speak. If people use drugs whether for medical purposes or for personal reasons be those whatever they may it will always be a major factor in everyday activities. If the state legalizes the use of drugs it would cut down the percentage in crimes, and satisfy some needing patients. One of the good points in legalizing drugs is that there will no longer be street pharmacists making profit off of the drugs, it would go to medical purposes, drug stores, and towards something more positive than someone on the street just looking to make a quick profit off of it. This would both upset and satisfy people, because although these street pharmacists would be out of job, and would now have to try and work legally other people wouldn't have to go against the law to buy the drugs because they're available at a local pharmacy. Maybe this is only how I feel but if you realize that people are going to do something behind the governments "back" maybe the best bet would be to legallize it and set some sort of presidence for said drugs.

Yes I believe that the states should be able to use the illegal drugs for medical purpose because its for the people who are willing to take these drugs for the right reasons. They are not going to abuse it . If it helps others for the right conditions then yes , Why not help others who life's at rick. This way only the hospitals who have legal rights to have the drugs. The state’s job is to do whatever is necessary to help the citizens.

No, I think the state should not have the right to retain the right to stop the use of illegal drugs for medical purposes. Whether the drugs is legalized for medical use, or outlawed all together it will be accessible. People will still abuse the drug no matter the circumstances. And by banning whatever the drugs may be, people who are sick can't benefit from it.

I don't think that a state should have the right to retain the right to use illegal drugs for medical purposes, but they should have every right to stop or try to stop the use of illegal drugs for people who just do it to get "high". There isn't really anyway of completely stopping the use of illegal drugs because people always find a way to do things you are not suppose to. I don't think that they should ban illegal drugs that are for medical use because people who use the drugs (ex. cancer patients) have a illness that is killing them slowly and hurting them while they are getting treatment, if there illness is not curable and there is no way to save the person then they should be allowed to use an illegal drug to make there illness not so bad. These illegal drugs have effects that will be harmful to your health in the long run, but in the long run people who have illnesses might not even be alive. People who use illegal drugs just to get high should not do it because it will be harmful to there health in the long run.
