No the US shouldn't give foreign aid to a country that violates human rights becuase it's against what we believe. If we help that country we are telling that country that they could continue violating human rights even though we disagree with that action. The US would be supporting a country that stands against our views on human rights. The US shouldn't take money from a foreign country that violates human rights becuase that shows that we don't care what goes on just as long as we get our money. I think the US should turn to another country that shares the same idea of rights. The US shouldn't take any action in regards to Uganda becuase who are we to tell a country what they should do. If we are to take action, we might as well rule that country setting down our rules. What Uganda is doing is wrong but not every country is going to have the same rights as the US. There are other countries that have rules that we the US disagree on and yet we take no action on that.

I think that the U.S. should continue giving foreign aid to Uganda. Even though Uganda has a bill against homosexuality, there is always a reason for the U.S. to give money to another country; there has to be a gain for the U.S. in Uganda. What the Ugandans do in their country is their problem, and not the U.S.’s as it doesn’t really affect them. I don’t think that the U.S. should be so judgmental towards Uganda, especially when they are accepting money from China. If the U.S. stops giving money to Uganda and continue accepting money from China, they would be seen as hypocrites and would make the U.S. look bad. The U.S. should just continue giving Uganda money, and not take action in Uganda, but knowing the recent history of the U.S., they would rather try to change Uganda’s hatred towards homosexuality to uphold the U.S.’s beliefs.

When reading this article, it made me realize how degrading Uganda's cultural beliefs can be. I was appauled that the United States provided Uganda with foreign aid. They are threatening to kill gays, and that is going against everything we believe in. In the United States we believe in the freedom of both speech and expression. So I don't think we should provide them with money, inturn I don't think we should except money from countries that go against what we believe. I think It also makes us ,as leaders, look bad by not trying to fix the mind sets of the leaders in this country. I think we should step up and try to persuade them to change their mindset.

No the US should not continue to give foreign aid to a country that violates human rights because why give food and needs to the country that harms the lives of human rights the food that you give is not going to those who needs them anyway it goes to them selfs. its like the forgotten aid. No the US should not accept money from a foreign country that violates human rights because if so they are supporting them to continue their wrong doing.

I completely agree with Elizabeth when she states that "What Uganda is doing is wrong but not every country is going to have the same rights as the US." Because I can recall a class awhile back when we discussed the issue of illegal drugs being legalized in certain states and not others. We discussed this topic and spoke about how not every state has the same situations so therefore it wasn't right for the federal government to have complete control over the drug being totally illegal in all states. The same lens could be applied with the Uganda situation The United States and Uganda are not even in the same races so why is it that the U.S believes they can control how the money is being spent; China isn't regulating the blank checks that they are handing out to us. Murdering or even life in prison because of your sexual orientation is entirely wrong and I have this mind set because I grew up in the U.S and we have civil rights, but not every country is blessed enough to have this privilege. So what we may take as cruel and unusual punishment they make take as a "cure" to a disease for the entire nation and who doesn't like a good ole cure? And I disagree with Kendra when she says "I think we should step up and try to persuade them to change their mindset." every nation doesn't have to be like our own! They believe they have found a cure. The nation of Uganda isn't as educated as we are about homosexuality, for the most part. We know homosexuality is not a disease,it isn't contagious, and it's not something that can be shaking out of a person. You also can't forget that the American evangelical Christians are the ones who provoked this situation in the first place and should be taking some of the blame. And in regards to the money you can't feed a cow from the green pastures and then take it to a dry land and expect it to survive.

I believe that we should, continue to give foreign aid to Uganda and continue to take money from China, because what happens in their country is not out business, I feel as if we need to learn from out mistakes in the past and not try to be the WORLD PEACE MAKER, and try and solve everything. I mean the best we can accept from the citizens in Uganda is that, we can ask them to try and spend a little of the money we give them toward the education of human rights, to teaching them that being gay isn’t a crime.
But not take it as far as, not giving them money, because at this point in time, they are completely depended on us and we cant just stop supporting them like that.

No, i don't agree with the U.S in giving foreign aid to a country who contradicts most of our beliefs. Why should we provide a country who kills gays? Like Kendra says "They are threatening to kill gays, and that is going against everything we believe in." Buy supporting them in there needs we would make ourselves look bad, why because then we would have to follow their rules and it would go against what we believe in. It would be better if we try to persuade them to change what they belief. Then at the end we will still come out as the better country.

No I do not think that the United States should continue providing financial aid for Uganda nor should they accept financial aid from other countries that violate human rights. I say this because as Kendra stated we have the right of free speech and expression. Although people may not agree with what you believe in, killing them isnt the solution. You may believe in a certain way of life but if you were threatened to be killed for it then i'm sure the rules would change.
I also dont think we should accept money from countries that violate human rights because if we stop giving money to Uganda for violating human rights how fair is it that we then turn around and get money from someone who is just as bad as they are? Thats just like violating the crime yourself.

I think that the U.S. should continue giving foreign aid to Uganda. Without the aid Uganda will collapse and will be more susceptible to influences of other countries and even terrorist. However I believe we can use this as a bargaining chip. We could tell Uganda that if they continue with trying to kill all homosexuals that they will no longer receive our money. Killing gays in not only wrong in the eyes of many US citizens, but many citizens around the world, so I don’t believe that this should be seen as trying to make Uganda more like the United States, but making it a more tolerant place.

After reading the article I don’t think the US should continue giving foreign aid to countries that violates human rights. The US bases itself on human rights and freedom, if we continue to fund those countries we're making ourselves look like hypocrites. I don’t think we should take money from place that violates humans either for the same reasons listed above. The US should try showing them new ways to handle their problems. Sending someone to jail based on the type of sex they like is wrong. We don’t have the right to tell you what sex you should and shouldn’t like.

Although continuing to give and receive foreign aid to and from countries that violate human rights contradicts the United States belief in freedom, concurred with Minoli, I think that’s none of our business to try to change rules/regulations/beliefs in other countries that have no effect on us. Every problem they’re facing doesn’t concern us . We’re supporting and being supported by these countries and ultimately benefitting from giving and receiving foreign aid. I don’t see any harm with the continuation.

I feel that the United States should stop giving money to countries that violates human rights. I say that because if we continue to give money to countries like this then it will seem like we’re supporting there decision to violate human rights. I also say that we shouldn’t accept money from countries that violate human rights for the same reason it looks like we’re supporting violation human rights. I feel that the United States should cut all ties and stop giving and accepting money and learn how to support our own countries.

I think the US should continue giving the US foreign aid. Just because Uganda wants to pass a bill that states "death" will be brought upon gay people; why stop helping. We are taking money from China and they do things that we don't like and vice versa. I disagree with everyone who thinks that we should stop giving foreign aid because this is not a big enough reason for it. I would understand if was something that affects the world peace but its just gays. In the end I think most people say this just cause of personal opinions towards gays.

As a country that supports giving humans their own rights and freedoms the US should NOT continue giving money to Uganda if they do not practice in some of the same beliefs that we do because if we do then it should not be documented that our country, and government believes in equality, and rights as a world wide attribute but only that we believe the US citizens should have human rights.

The fact that we take money from a country(ies) that has work ethics, and different violations to a humans' rights shows that we although having rights in America we may not care too much about the rights of people in other countries. Its hipocritical of us to continue taking from a country like China, and giving money to Uganda because neither of them respect human rights. And to accept money, and still hand out money in itself seems idiotic, because if we are in the position of accepting money from another country we must need it, so then to hand it over to another is backwards.

I feel that the US should give Uganda the option of still accepting financial help if they give up on their mission to eliminate the thought of homosexuals being in their country. You can NOT aniyalate that wide of an abundance of people because even if you don't allow them to live in your country you will still have those that travel freely through out it. If Ugandan's are so set on some how punishing their homosexual residence but still wish to accpet money from the United States then maybe they should pass a bill or law stating that all homosexuals in their country must pay a yearly fine to be there, or a yearly "homosexual liscence" that gives them the right to be there. It is their citizens rights of freedom of speech to protest homosexuals but I hope that those citizens plan to be Uganda bound for the rest of their ignorant closed minded lives, because if a person were to travel to a place like America or Europe and be subjected to homosexual living, and activity, and then try to take violent reprecution their outcome would be as fatal as death by another homosexual who could have been offended by their actions, prison for commiting a hate crime, or much worse punishment.

I believe that the US should give foreign aid to a country that violates human rights because we take foreign aid from china and they violate human rights to. I dont think that it would be the right thing to do for the United States to stop giving money to Uganda because how would we feel if china stopped giving money to us. Even though i believe that it is wrong for the people of Uganda to put people in jail for life for being gay, the United States should not get involved in the matters of their country. Its not like china tells us that there gunna stop giving us foreign aid because were not communits. If we really dont agree with the people of Uganda and dont want to give the aid then we should stop taking aid from other countries because it is like saying one thing and then going completelt against it.

I think that the United states shouldnt give foreign aid to a country that violates human rights because what they are doing is irrevelent and killing someone is inncoent is not right. Just because some is gay doesnt mean that its an disease , people change for a reason . They want to fit a right life sytle instead of being someone there not. But the question is why help a country who doesnt believe in homosexuality?. Why put money out of our pockets to a counrty who is killing innocent people.

The US giving financial aid to a country that supports the imprisonment of gays is morally wrong; in the end we support a shaky government system that creates laws that fly in the face of the value of human rights, as perceived by Americans. At the same time, totally withdrawing our money might offset the precarious, relative stability of the country. It would be in our best interest to support groups outside their government who can reverse the bill, and reinforce the ability to support Africans in Uganda without losing the credibility of our support of human rights.

I believe that the U.S. should continue to give Uganda foreign aid because I feel that it won’t help the situation if we were to do otherwise. The issue isn’t money but human rights. If the U.S. were to not support Uganda, homosexuals in Uganda would probably experience more discrimination. The U.S. pulling their funding for Uganda could cause uproar in their nation. Just the same, we would have to stop accepting money from China or be seen as hypocritical. As a possible solution, I think that trained American human rights speakers should visit Uganda and try to bring peace since Americans fueled the fire of hate towards homosexuals in Uganda.

Personally, I believe we should keep the money to ourselves. Of course, I realize that there are certain consequences to these actions, but why should we give funding to something that we do not support? In short, it is like America is doing one thing and saying another. We "talk the talk" but by the looks of things, we don't "walk the walk".

NO! the US should not continue to give money to a country that violates human rights. It goes without saying that countries that we aid may not have the same beliefs as us, but threatening to kill homosexuals is completely against our beliefs (as a country). Accepting money from a country that violates human rights is slightly different. By accepting the money the US isn't saying that they believe in what the country is doing, but by giving a country money that violates human rights we are.

When reading this article in class,I couldnt believe how the US is supporting and giving money to a country that violates human rights. If we continue to give foreign aid to countries that doesnt believe in the same values, they would think what they are doing is right. The Us, shouldnt give or take money that kills the idea of freedom of speech. I also agree with Elizabeth when she stated, "If we are to take action, we might as well rule the country". We are giving help to people who set their own rules and its not right!!!!

When the US does something wrong we are quickly judged from other countries. SO why should we take the same from another country. Yes i understand that all cuntries are not perfect to many extentsbut when it is due to human rights it comes to a point where, something needs to be done. For the US to continue giving foriegn aid to a country that voilate human right sounds rediculous. LIke Elizabth said "why give to a country that does not have the same beliefs that we do." Yes i understand why the US is doing this. |It is somewhat giving us a foot through the door. A bribery you can call it.
Should the US be given money from a foriegn state that voilates human rights? NO. why? Then we will be looked upon as sorry. This country is looked at as independent. Though we may associate with another country and make trade we are nt looked s poor. The statement " It is bettr to give than to recieve." We are that country to be giving. We need to have that title of "wealth", not sympathy.
An action that US can take with Uganda is to associate with them as much as possbile feed them some things that our country does and see if they incorporate into theirs. Its a voluntary hand that we are giving but not really telling them to do it.

Ana J. said...

Personally, I don't think the U.S should be giving foreign aid to Uganda money after violating human rights. But we can't change their cultural preferences. It's not our duty to tell them how to do this or that. If we do stop giving them money, then the outcome will be much worse. Uganda will backfire and it'll cause more problems.

well in my opinion the United states gives money to whoever it feels needs it the most or whoever can benefit them. So giving money to Ugandan to me is a question mark. Our country has a opposition to gays getting married but Uganda has taken the issue of homosexuality to another level. i believe that money still should be given to the country but it should be given in the form of supplies and tangible objects instead of cash.

M. karim said...

i do not believe the US should support a country that violates the human rights but the country is hard not to feel bad for. if we were to pull the money from them, they would have nothing and we would also be looked at as bad. i would say that we should not borrow money from countries that violate human rights but then we would have no money. so i come to the conclusion of you should borrow or give money when you need to under any circumstances. In Uganda i believe the US should still give them support money and let them try to figure it out themselves.
